Supers

When purchasing super forms of any morphs do you guys have a preference on the sex of the snake? What I mean buy this is do you guys think it is better to have your super forms as males, females, or do you think it is more dependent on your breeding plans? I have talked to several people about their opinion on this and have gotten mixed reviews so I thought I would ask everyone. Thanks.

generally there is the rule of thumb that when pairing, the male should always be genetically more powerful, or at least more valuable, than the females.


so i guess it just depends on what kind of super it is, and how advanced the collection is. someone who has some nice single-gene females might want a male ivory. someone who already has awesome 3 or 4 gene males and 2 gene females would only consider a female ivory.

i think it depends on too many things. like, what kind of super is it, does it have extra genes, and how does it compare to the whole rest of the collection. super could be anything, from a 150 dollar super pastel to a 30000 dollar super bamboo. i think in that extreme example, almost everyone would want the super bamboo to be male and the super pastel to be female.

It's all personal preference. Get powerful females from the get go and you can't go wrong. :gj:

Well males are always cheaper then females, but a Super I would probably go for a female because they lay eggs.

Generally if you have a gene that has a super (homozygous) form, its always best to get it whether its a male or female. If I could, I'd go for 1.1 because just as much as a male is important, so is a female. In the long run you only need 1 super male....though you can also do a ton with multiple super females as well. Buying a Pastel is like buying a het Albino. Would you rather get an Albino/Super Pastel that will make at the very least all hets/Pastels or something that can make possible hets/normals. So what I'm getting at is.....both have their importance in a breeding colony....so male or female....get it.

One male can mate with several females. So getting a super male maximizes money return. Genetically, it does not matter.

Yes, I understand it does not matter genetically. I myself keep both males and females depending on my plans. I was just curious if anyone had any particular preference simply because I have talked to people who think that it is more wise to buy males and some who think it is more wise to buy females. Thanks.

If it's a low end morph like Super Pastel then the female...If it's a high end animal like a Super Gravel then a male...

I would think it kinda has to do do with what's already in your collection, what you want to produce, at least if your concern is space and money

Most low end supers are not genetically strong enough as a male.
And that whole male needs to be more powerful than a female only in a business sense does that even matter.
I have produced some fine triple gene snakes with single gene males and double gene females.
