Could this be genetic?

Hi, I just hatched a weird clutch including this cinnamon which is almost black back.His father is just a normal looking cinnamon. Is there any possibilities to be genetic or not? Should he be a keeper?

That's definitely an interesting trait. The only way to determine if its genetic is to prove it out. I would keep it myself, especially if its a male. You can get him up to size quicker than a female holdback and breed him to two or three normals to see if he proves out. Good luck!

I heard black back can be iffy. It can be genetic and it also at times isn't. I have a black back cinny too and I'm hoping he will pass the trait on.

Some black backs are genetic some not, there is only one way to find out ;)

Good thing to remember with any living being.... Anything can be genetic or be a fluke. Sometimes a trait will pop up out of nowhere and end up being genetic and sometimes an animal will be found in the wild and will display everything that would indicate it is genetic and end up being just a fluke... The only way to tell is to breed it out and see if it is passed on.

thanks for the answer. Cant decide yet what to do.. Probably im going to keep it and breed him as soon as possible hoping he will pass the trait on..

Cinny's are black backs, but they are not genetic black backs in that they cannot make normal black backs, only more cinny black backs.
The only way it can make a normal black back is if it is also a genetic black back.
