Meal worms vs super worms.

What do you guys prefer to breed? I'm thinking on breeding 1 or the other for my asfs/mice just curios as to what you guys prefer and what is easier in your guys opinions...

Mealworms are easier to breed. You don't have to separate them to get the larva to pupate.

With superworms they need to be separated to become beetles which in turn breed and make your superworms.

Both care requirements are basically the same, some type of grain substrate and veggies for hydration. Keeping beetles separate from the larva will prevent beetles from eating small larva.

Switching out the bedding of beetles either weekly or biweekly will reduce them eating their own eggs too.

You'll Lowe some eggs to them either way, no matter how much veggies you give them.

Hmm, where I'm going they are only bringing 100 packs of meal worms for 4$ or 1k supers for 27$ ad they are not bringing bigger packs of mealies... Ill see if I can find other suppliers there. Thanks guys.

Indeed^ everything here is much more expensive then the states :( I bought 2k mealies for 30$ and decided to check on my old far and there is like 10k little guys... They did not even have veggies for like the last 4 months there for they were eating each other to stay alive lol and ofcorse I checked on the far after I purchased some meal worms...

I use oats as substrate myself. It works as such and they eat it.
You should seperate them, my worms will chomp on the metamorphs just like the beetles.

You can sift through each week or cut the bottom out of a beetle tub and nut and bolt a screen on the bottom.
Put that tub into another tub with oats as well so the fresh hatched babehs wiggle through the screen and you wont have to dump and sift every week or two.

I bred meal worms a couple years ago and it was very easy and had a huge amount in little time. Supers my beetles died quickly and did not produce anything for some reason.

I did have a couple hundred meal beetles and only a small amount of supers tho. Your mileage may vary
