Spurs: urgent

Hi guys,

I've kept snakes for a few years so not a total newb, but still lots to learn!

I was just having a chat with a friend and she was telling me how she took her snake to a snake specialist, they looked at her male ball and said the spurs on the snake were there because the snake had never mated and they get bad tempered because they're uncomfortable. The specialist pulled out the spur and discharge was attached to it. The snake wasn't in any pain while it was being done... Is this right??? I've never heard of this before or known snakes that have had it done.

can anyone give me advice on this?

There is no reason what so ever to remove a spur. They are used for mating and may fall of by them selves but I have bred 100's of ball pythons and have never heard of this:confusd:

How would they know it wasn't in any pain? it's not like they would scream or make a sound!

Thank you, I thought that was the case, as it is with all other snakes hence male and females having them! But just worried I missed out something big!!

It is amazing how many folks consider themselves an expert. I can't imaging it not hurting:tears:

I know, me either!! It's the problem in England, people will say they're specialist but not really have a clue :(

It's no different here, I sold a kid his first snake and weeks later he is giving advice to folks like an expert, lol.

You may want to let people know who this "specialist" is, so that no one in their right mind ever goes to them.

Sadly they moved to Australia and she can't remember her name :(

to be completely frank reading this almost made me vomit :/ .. who in their right mind would even THINK of pulling a spur out .. pythons have remained the same for millions of years if spurs were in the way nature would have gotten rid of them long ago .. my god just imagining seeing this made me sick to my stomach :confuse:
