    Recommended eating frequency?
I bought my young BP about four months ago, and he's eating no problem. I had initially been feeding it a rat pup every two weeks, since it initially didn't eat every week. But the last month or so it's been immediately going after the rat pup as soon as I introduced it. A week ago I made the mistake of putting my BP "Fluffy" into a holding cage, THEN trying to drop the rat in. It wound up striking my hand instead, thinking it was the rat. So I'm now putting Fluffy into the cage first, then I drop in the rat.

But with him being so aggressive toward his food, I'm thinking that I may need to start feeding him twice a week? Is that too much? Or either a larger rat/mouse. What frequency do the rest of you feed yours? Fluffy is about two feet long and a little over an inch in diameter at the largest.

First off you don't have to put your BP in another enclosure and many will recommend against it. BP's get stressed entirely way to easy so just feed him in the enclosure he's in.

Also you had the scent of rodents in the air, I wouldn't worry about it and instead I'd just make sure you're feeding an appropriate size meal weekly.

If you feed every two weeks I'd drop down to weekly. Feed a prey item that is as wide as the thickest part of the snake

For my younger or smaller snakes, I offer prey items weekly. Older and larger animals can have frequency dropped to every 10 to 14 days.

I'm afraid that if I give him his mouse/rat in his existing cage, he may ingest some of the wood chips along with the prey, which I'd rather avoid. Besides, he doesn't have any hesitation to taking what I give him in what I put him in (a round plastic bowl of sorts).

I feed outside of her enclosure in a separate box. but I have fed her on cypress mulch and she has swallowed a piece here and there. now I've starting feeding her in a bare box to avoid that issue. she doesn't strike me unless she gets a sudden hand in the face when she's really hungry.

AND she's 2 months old and eats two mice every 7 days or so... so how old is your snake?, you may be over feeding if you're giving a rat pup twice a week.. that seems a bit much.

A friend at work, whos educated on snakes and many reptiles told me its not necessary to feed in another enclosure.. So I use tongs and Kocur strikes hard and fast, within seconds. I go to pick him when every handle him and I'm lucky, never strikes at me.....just be glad fluffs feeding. I am feeding mine twice a week..every 4-5 days..he's active, hungry, shy, sweet and scared..he's pretty awesome,I love the little guy already..fed him Sat morning and then again tonight..will feed him again on Tuesday.Maybe Monday
