    umbilical cord and fat belly
So this is my first clutch, and a question about the first snake out of the egg. He came out on his own but still has the umbilical cord attached and it is attached to the yolk sack. So i know that that can sometimes happen and it will dry up and fall off, but my concern is his belly is really fat where the umbilical cord is attached, it is soft though and i was wondering if i have to be concerned about that or if that is just the yolk he absorbed or what the case is.

If the yolk sac is still connected and the hatchling is out of the egg, you need to place it in a deli cup with damp paper towel.

This will serve several purposes, first limit it's movement so he does not drag the sac all over the place, second it will keep everything moist.

You should see some improvement and the yolk should get absorbed completely if there is no progress in the next 24/48 hours, it's on to the next phase.

so the yolk was completely absorbed, but it fell off shortly after my original post now it is just the umbilical cord. is it ok that his belly is really fat still it is still soft so i dont think it is hardened yolk..
