    A Quick Shed Question
Sometime during the night my Pied started her first shed with me. This morning when I looked just the head piece came off and she loosened it up around her neck but she has a piece stuck on the bottom of her mouth. Should I give her the day to try to get it all off? If not when should I soak? Humidity is at 71%. Thanks

Quick Edit: She's just hanging out in her hide she's not trying to work it off at the moment.

    Leave her alone.

I find the best way to assure your snake will shed properly as an adult is do not intervene as a hatchling. Let her learn. Shed skin stuck on her will not harm her.

Yeah the same thing happened with my baby bumblebee. My 180 gram albino has no issues. My bumblebee is about the same size as the pied, both around 85 grams now. I was thinking they will never learn if I help them do it. She skipped her meal last Friday I believe because of her eye caps, now that those are off do you think I should try to feed tomorrow if she hasn't gotten the rest of her shed off? Thanks for the advice.

In my experience (in the instances my snake does not shed completely) once the head is clear feeding is not an issue. I have only ever owned the snake I have now and I also got it when it was several years old at least, so I do not have experience with babies. As a matter of fact my snake just shed last week and somehow left a strip most of the way down its back. I held off on the meal until I saw the skin in the cage and then fed Monday with no problems.

If the shed is stuck, it's time for a humid soak in a closed tub.
Waiting won't help, and it only takes an hour to get it off.
If the shed is stuck I would say your humidity is under 50% no matter what the hygrometer says.
Snakes in 70% humidity will shed in one piece with no problems.

    Re: A Quick Shed Question
All my snakes are in the same rack. Each tub has it's own thermometer and they all say 69-71% right now. It's humid as hell in the north east today. So they are not wrong. Like I said my albino is in the same rack and has no issues shedding. But my bumblebee and my pied both babies did not shed completely for their first time with me. I just soaked her for 5 minutes and let her run through my hand in a towel and it all came off in under a minute. It seems like once she got her head cleared she just went back into her hide and didn't try to get the rest off. This is only her 2nd shed in her entire life. Same for the bumblebee when she shed.

Just bump up the humidity and let your snake sort it's own shed out. If it were eyecaps you could take a different approach but you're fine.
