    Monty the BP
New to the forum and also a new BP owner
So I just bought my first male BP normal pastel ( I think) from a breeder, his name is Monty. He is a year old and seems to be doing great. I got him on Sat and he ate for me already on Sunday. I decided to feed him in a different box instead of his cage just so he doesn't associate my hands in the cage as food. While he was out of his cage I added a new hide and some more plants and moss, I noticed after he ate and I put him back he got very active and wanted to explore which is great. But he has not gone and slept in his heat side hide, which he loved yesterday, Should I be worried? I heard that for digestion they should be in the heat ( I use UTH). Also if I try and post a picture can someone tell me what color he is, I think the breeder said a Normal Het Pastel but I can't remember. Also can someone tell me how to change my profile name I accidently put Monthy instead of Monty  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...3&l=059d310030

Hi! No need to feed in a separate container, you are actually more likely to get bit that way. Is the uth controlled by a thermostat? It could possibly be too hot if its not controlled

Thank you for the reply :) It is not controlled by anything, and of course as soon as I hit submit he went into his hide LOL. Should it be controlled? I have heard so many different things on the feeding, breeder said to feed in his tank, a member of the club out this way said to feed in a feeding area.....so I am open to opinions being so new at owning a BP

Most here recommend feeding in the enclosure... listen to your breeder. Moving them for feeding can stress them out. And you're more likely to get bit. As long as your hand is in the cage for reasons other than feeding you are fine

Yes the uth needs to be controlled look up hydrofarm thermostat on Amazon

I'm pretty sure of this, but I don't think any BP can be het. pastel. Pastel is not a recessive gene. He has definitely got the yellowish pastel color to him!

:welcome:. There is a great community here with varying levels of experience and most importantly sound advice. Congrats on the pick up! :)

You can feed in the same space they rest.
Heating should be controlled via a thermostat. There are various brands out there. A simple web search will get you started. :)

Thank you everyone, he is a pretty cool guy and very social. Not sure what the Het stands for but I thought that is what the breeder said (could be very wrong LOL). I look forward to being apart of a new group and taking in everyone's great knowledge.
