it's been taking me awhile just to get my temps correct. so far i've taken 2 heating pads back for an exchange because i thought they weren't heating correctly. i also decided to move my future bp's cage into my closet as the AC was blowing cold air right over the cage.

after moving the cage, the temps went up a few degrees. they are now 80* on the cool side and 85* on the warm side, and this is with the probe right above the substrate.

does the probe from the hygrometer have to be placed inside the very bottom of the cage (right above the heating pad) to provide accurate temps, or do i want it right above the substrate?

I keep my probe right on the substrate. You might want to try that and also check your amibient air temps to make sure all is good.

right on the substrate? do you mean you stick it to the inside of the bottom of the cage (underneath the substrate)?

btw- how do i check my ambient air temps? :?

Right on the top of the substrate. I use paper towels, so i lay the probe right on top of it. I put it under the hide on the cool side often as well to check the temp under the hide. The ambient air temps i check by just hanging the probe right in the middle of the cage for about 10 min or so. That way it can even out and gt the correct temp. Then i put the probe right back on the substrate.
