This is my first time on this forum so let me say HELLO! I am learned a lot from just reading about BP's here. I bought my first BP (normal) last weekend and I am already looking for another. As usual I went and bought the wrong type of stuff for my BP. I should have read all the info provided on the website before hand. Please don't flame me for that.:please: The biggest mistake I made was buying a 40 gallon tank with a SCREEN TOP (humidity problems). I am working to fix that.

I am looking into getting a thermostat to control my heat pad and lamp. I am looking into the Vivarium models. It says that the 200D is specifically designed for lamps.

    Here are my questions:
Can it control my lamp AND my heat pad at the same time?

I assume I would hook up my pad and lamp to a electrical strip and then plug the strip into the thermostat? Is that correct? Thermostat only has one plug.

Where should I mount the sensor?

Any help and/or advice would be appreciated. I am not willing to change the enclosure as of yet but I probably will down the road for more BP's

Have you looked at the herpstat 2? It will control both for sure and is considered one of the best. With it, you would plug both the UTH plug and the heat lamp plug directly into the thermostat.

the probe for the UTH goes between the mat and the glass on the bottom of the tank. The probe for the lamp I really am Unsure of as I have mine hooked up to a dimmer and only turn it on low at night to keep ambient at 80.

How big is your new no legged friend? A 40 gallon is big enough to comfortably house a full grown adult bp as they prefer small places with places to hide. <but still need room to stretch when they get the urge.>

    Pics would help...

Before I go into any details, I have a question.

Where are you from so I know your temp and humidity in general. You'll get much better advice with that because some places naturally have more humidity and what not than others.

I live in Alabama. I will get some pictures up when I get home from work.

THIS PICTURE IS RIGHT AFTER I SPRAYED THE TANK. THE HUMIDITY WAS GETTING LOW.

HERE IS THE TOP OF THE TANK. I JUST MOISTENED THE FABRIC TO HELP HOLD THE HUMIDITY IN. NOTICE THE 75W light? I THINK I NEED A BIGGER ONE.

HERE IS AN ACTUAL PICTURE OF MY BP.

I does not get hot enough in the tank (80-85). I think with it being so big, I need to step up my pad AND light. It was in the high 90's when I got home today but my house thermostat was set on 78 and the tank is upstairs with vent closed. Hope this help ya'll understand the situation.

Definitely up the heating pad. Cover the top with aluminum foil (search 20 gallon setup), basically cover 75% of the top with with duct tape or aluminum foil tape.

    Good luck:gj:

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes, I am going to get a bigger pad. I am still trying to figure out what thermostat to buy. I would like to find one that controls my lamp and pad if possible. I am not sure how that would work.

Since a heat pad will not control the ambient temp, is there anything else to use besides a heat lamp? I know they suck because they basically kill your humidity.

I use a lamp, but my tank is covered with aluminum foil and a damp towel. Also, my water bowl is situated over the uth. My humidity stays between 50-70. Sometimes, you just have to play with the positioning of everything to get your temps and humidity where you want them.

Wouldn't that make the water hot for the snake? Also, do you sit your light on top of the foil or leave a spot open for it?
I know these questions may sound stupid but I am tired of buying different things for this BP. I am ready to buy the correct items and be done. I know buying the tank was not the best idea but I wanted something visual for it. I don't think I am going to be breeding so tubs are not what I am looking for. However, the more and more I read...they seem to be best. It is very frustrating
