    Where do you?...
    Get your feeders, and why?

When I got my girl, the lady who had her gave me the rest of her f/t. I've been looking online for a good place to get feeders from, and I found Layne Labs. Does anyone have experience with them?

If you can recommend a better place, feel free. Thanks in advance!

From my rat room  - Why? I am a control freak and I like to know what I feed to my snakes.

Now as far as buying feeders, back when I used buy f/t, I would buy from http://www.americanrodent.com/welcome.html, clean healthy feeders and good customer service.

I get mine from Layne Labs and I LOVE them. Shipping is pricey and it'll be worse where you are, considering you're further east. I would look for a local place. Maybe more people from the area can chime in. I don't think it would be worth it to go with Layne just because you're going to spend twice as much on shipping as you will on feeders, with only one snake. If you buy enough to make it worth it, your snake is going to eat very small meals for a very long time or the feeders are going to go bad from being stored for so long (you generally don't want to keep rats frozen for more than 8 or so months or they start to go bad).

Check craigslist for local breeders. I found a guy who is a 30 minute drive from me that can provide me with live and frozen rodents with just a text a day or so in advance. I usually buy three months at a time. I pay $1.50 for small rats.

Why is shipping so expensive through Layne Labs???

I also use American Rodent and love them. I don't breed enough rats to keep up with all my snakes so I have to buy some f/t.

It's coming from California, and dry ice is expensive.

I recommend Layne Labs and Rodent Pro: I use LL for smaller orders (as I can order smaller quantities of certain feeders) and RP for my larger orders. Shipping is going to be expensive anywhere, so I recommend buying in bulk every couple, six, etc months to make the most of it.

Unless you order mass amounts, the shipping will always be crazy high. It's expensive to overnight frozen feeders with dry ice.

I buy my frozen feeders at expos, and will stock up to make it worth it and to last me Til the next expo.

    I breed my own live.
