    Russian rat snakes under rated
Just wondering if anyone else has Russian rat snakes? I find mine to be very unusual in comparison to many other snakes. She is out all day and very inquisitive. It's ashame they lack in popularity and very little info on them. Hopefully some day there will be morphs available.

They are neat looking. Not sure if anyone else here has them(I do not). Your description of yours sounds like Wafer when he was younger. He isn't very inquistive now, but definitely keeps tabs on what is going on around him.

    (IMO/experience) popularity seems like this:

    Texas rats
    Tiawan Beuties
    Black rats

My next rats may be taiwan beauties or mandarins.

What are you basing this perceived lack of popularity on?

i Canada there are very few breeders, very little info on them, very little about them on forums, I know people with many other types of rat snakes yet never have I met anyone with one aside from the breeder and myself. That would be where I base my perceived lack of popularity.also with many other species of popular snakes there have been breeders creating tons of morphs whereas the Russian rat does not

I can't speak for guys like Spuckler, but I produce a couple of clutches a year and do not even have to advertise to sell them. They go before they are hatched.

Judging by the difficult time I've had outcrossing my lines by buying new stock, I'd hazard a guess that demand far outstrips supply.

Remember, lack of discussion or presence on the internet does not mean a snake is unpopular - it only means that they aren't being discussed by a small portion of the population on line.

There is a lot of information out there on them. Some of it may even be accurate.

I read an article on them from reptiles magazine a while back, they pretty much said the same thing. I'd love to get my hands on one someday
