    Snake yawning
Sorry for all the posts in one day but I am new :P

my girl seems to be yawning. I have been having a little trouble getting her to eat so I wonder is they are related. She is a 1.5 year old royal python. She has always been fed frozen thawed. She plays with her food. She puts her mouth over the hoppers face and kind of shakes it the loses interest. It almost looks like she is trying to suffocate it.

That was two days ago and I have noticed that she has been yawning since.

I read this on another site:

"Movement problems/stargazing aren't potential symptoms of the same illness that yawning can be. If the yawns last for longer than a second or two, or happen VERY frequently, or are accompanied by wheezing/squeaking sounds or fluid from the mouth or nostrils, then you have a respiratory infection on your hands."

This came from "Mushroom Spore" on "Arachnoboards" here is the link:
    http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/show...python-yawning

Now Im by no means a Vet or an expert in this field. Just thought I would try to help if I could. Maybe someone else on here may be able to chime in on this.

Hi thanks for the response. She is not star gazing and the yawns are very quick they tend to happen after she has been basking. No fluid eyes and nostrils are clear. I think I might just be being paranoid

Id offer her larger prey items. Hoppers for a 1.5 year old ball python are quite a bit small. I offer hoppers to newborn hatchlings. And at 1.5 years, all of those are on small rats.

    sent from my incubator

She could just be relocating her jaw. If this happens post-feeding, that may be what is happening. Keep an eye on it, see if she continues days after attempted feedings, and any other signs of illness. But if it's just quick like you said, it may just be her getting her mouth all straightened out. :)

Yea I have a couple 1 year olds that are eating Small rats right now. They eat once a week. That may help.
