6:00 AM Bumblebee Shedding Headache

So my Bumblebee started to go into shed and I bumped up the humidity levels to 70%. I wake up this morning to take a peak and her shed was horrible. Just a few flakes came off here and there but the worst part was she sounded like she started to have a case of RI. So I started to panic a bit. I planned on giving her a bath in a bit but I jumped on the computer quick and found out that a bad shed on the head could cause the issue of her wheezing and popping. Anyways I gave her a bath for a little and ran her through my hands in a wet towel and eventually all of the bad shed came off. The head part was the worst and finally her breathing issues stopped.

I have her in a rack with 2 other snakes. These 3 snakes are all 2013's and this is my first time ever using a rack system. I use to house them in separate tubs before I bought the rack and the Albino was the only one who shed and the shed was perfect.

Temps in the rack are 80-83 cool side and 90-93 warm side. Humidity when none of the snakes are in shed is usually between 60-65% depending on the weather outside. Also they are all on newspaper. Each tub also has a hide and a water bowl.

Basically what I'm asking is there anything I can add to the tubs to make the sheds better or do I just need to bump the humidity up?

You can mist the newspaper to bump it up - I find the snakes hate being sprayed directly though.

When you see a shed coming up, move the water dish on the hot side of the enclosure. Use a wider dish. More surface area of the water creates more evaporation.

Can mist the paper like previously said. I personally do this if I see a oncoming shed.

You can use a different substrate such as cypress mulch or coco husk to boost the humidity. These ones retain moisture well.

You can also place a small piece of damp moss in the tub if needed.


And maybe you have too many ventilation holes in your tubs?

The humidity average is between 60-65%. That's just average, no misting or anything special like that. I guess I could try misting the newspaper ahead of time that sounds like a good idea. Like I said I also bump the humidity up before the shed to 70-75%. Going to try a bigger wider water dish also in case they want to get wet. Thanks for the information. Greatly appreciated.
