    Questions about Coral Glow
I am still trying to figure this gene out and all the different things about it. I have an understanding of the genetics of it but am lost on a few things. First is the sex linking thing. Not really understanding it and I watched the vid by Kevin and still really do not understand that part so if someone could explain the male makers/female makers and all of that it would awesome.

My second question is what is the big deal with it? I see all these combos and almost every single one I have seen looks just like the next one. The pastel coral glow sitting right next to the coral glow at a show looked exactly the same. The only time I see something different is when it is say a spider or pin coral glow. I may just be seeing poor examples of the combos or something but they all look the same to me. Could this please be explained from someone who actually breeds them and can show the differences to me with pics?

Starters, it's not sex linked. Otherwise it would easily explainable, Linked to the Z-chromosome or W-Chromosome. What we are seeing is a phenomenon without a name I know of. Here is someone who explains it all pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=71ZoSk0vGiY just remember his theory and math are in fact theories. We do not know exactly how the gene works, just making guesses based off of limited clutches.

Using his numbers, assume banana x normal pairing.
Female bananas make normal sex ratios, 25% male banana, 25% female banana, 25% male normal, 25% normal female.
Male banana whos banana parent was the mother: 5% male banana, 45% female banana, 45% male normal, 5% female normal
Male bananas whos banana parent was the father: 45% male banana, 5% female, 5% male normal, 45% female normal

Once supers start breeding might even get more interesting.

As for the combos the same can be said about other mutations if that is really the way YOU see it.

I can't see the resemblance between the CG Pied, CG Clown, CG Spider, CG Pinstripe, CG Champagne, CG Leopard, CG Cinnamon etc

Sure some may look similar but it is all about what you are pairing them with just like any other mutation.

I was just trying to see if there was something I was missing. I can tell the difference with quite a few combos but get really lost when it is pastel, yb, and any of the subtle morphs. I don't want to come off as saying that the CG is anything less than spectacular. I just can not see the combos. Like with the one you just got I could have sworn that it has super pastel in it due to the head blushing but I am not sure because of the CG.

As to the male maker vs female maker I finally understand it. I had watched all the videos I could find and for some reason did not get it but after seeing it in print I finally get it which is what I really wanted.

I agree on the majority of the combos looking very similar to each other. CG with a pastel, black pastel, cinny, spotnose, yb, enchi, etc seem to all have the same general look, TO ME. I do see the differences, but they aren't very big differences--at least not enough to make me say, "wow, that pastel CG is way better than the black pastel CG!"

For the genetics, I thought the male-making males produced more than 50% CG/banana when paired with normals. Don't they tend to throw the gene more often than not? I don't breed them, so don't take mine as an experienced opinion. It's just that I was under that impression from what I've read and viewed about them. (I really wish we could settle on one name for it, though, instead of calling them Coral Glows or Bananas... They're clearly the same thing..)

I 100% agree Clark. The name needs to be settled once and for all. I just wish I understood them better because I will not get a morph that I do not understand completely unless it is totally unproven but then there is fun in that not in something that is established.

I do like the mutation. But personally, the CG combos remind me of albino combos. Different, but similar enough not to really stand out to me me unless its pied or clown.

Yup. Same mutation, just different lines. Like lesser/butter.

I love the morph. I love everything about it and I can't wait to see it as a pied (someday I'll have one of those... :please:)
