So, this weekend I was channel surfing and passed right by the local news as I rarely ever watch it (too dramatized, only watch BBC news)...however, a blurb about snakes caught my ear so I go back to the story. Apparently, a thief got off w/several baby burmese from a local keepers home. This person was actually referred to as a breeder, but don't know if I would have classified him that way. It seems that the babies were stolen right out of this guys OPEN garage. Why he would keep his snakes (and the garage was packed w/enclosures of all sorts) in a garage to begin with and then leave the dang thing open if he's so worried about his collection? I also thought it rather amusing how the reporter was handling a baby BP the whole story but kept referring to the burmese without pointing out that she what she was holding was not a burmese.... In any case, I hope those baby burms don't fall into the wrong hands or end up dead.....
In a related story the same night, a Diamondback was stolen from the Lowry Park Zoo. I guess they notified all the area pet stores to be on the look out for anyone selling either of these species of snakes. They also made a huge deal about 'not handling any snake if you see it, call your local Florida Animal, something, something if you see a snake' (probably more concerned about the rattler)....seems to be a lot of snake theft around here lately....kinda weird.......

    If there was no challenge
That does seem strange, Caren. You would think that with all the escaped snakes running around loose in Florida that no one would need to steal anything. I don't know if it's as bad in Tampa as it is in Miami, but it seems that there's plenty to go around down there.
