post-breeding eason - the bloody eating frenzy
Dear god, post breeding-season really is intense .. especially the girls who layed eggs some months ago ago.. you can see the bloodlust burning in their eyes - they do not distinguish allies from foes! as soon as the tub opens the striking begins! if I have a rat in hand or not -their sole intent is killing and eating whatever passes by :please: .. this time is the only time of the year i fear feeding days :// (not really though )

I love this time of year. Mine are eating so much, I've had to order rats, my production will not keep up with their appetites!

I have a few picky eaters, and come the end of breeding season - I love seeing them mow down on whatever comes their way. Especially my big girls, my spider went in at 2400 grams, and came out of the breeding season at 2050. She's smashing rats now and it makes me hopeful that she can go again, it's all about getting her back to breeding weight and the better she does with that the better my next breeding season is going to look. I can deal with a little excitement from her haha.

What is funny, is mine are eating ASFs, Rats, both live and f/t. I can't produce enough to keep them from diving out at me when I pull open the tubs! Even the boys are eating like crazy. The local rat delivery guy is also very happy.

    Funny that you say this-

I have just one ball, I believe, male, he's 11. He just went hunger crazy from one rat, to 3 large every 2 wks.

This last time, as soon as I opened the door, he struck outside the cage!! 3/4 of his body was hanging which was coiling the rat of course. He was totally oblivious that he was about to drop out of the cage.

I had to lift him up and put him back in. He never lessened the grip on his prey.

    Intense

Haha my guy did that last week too!! He would not leave the front of his tank for two days prior to feeding. I was scared to reach in and change his water (noy really lol). Feeding day finally rolls around and he launches himself halfway out of the cage as soon as I open the door. I'm just glad he snagged the rat midair instead of me :)

I only have the one female who's laid, but she will only eat fresh killed, and she's hitting them hard enough to spray blood everywhere. I had to wipe the wall down on wednesday, and throw out my shirt the week before. But she's also 300g over her previous high weight and shows no signs of stopping so I won't complain.:D
