Recessives - Chicken or the Egg?
Just a quick question about semantics:

Starting from scratch, what's (in your opinion) the best way to start a recessive project if I plan to produce my own hets? Visual male or female when pairing to co-dom morphs their first season? My head says visual female so her het males will be able to breed back to mom sooner, but I wonder what your thoughts are on this.

    Thanks!

my take on it is this.. i think if you want to get into a recessive project, the best way to start out is a visual female. that way, you know 100% for sure every egg she lays will be het. if you have a visual male and breed him to a normal or het female and that female has been bred the year before by another male, there's always a chance of retained sperm and your "hets" not really being a het. if you have a visual female, take one of her het sons and hopefully breed him back to her the very next year.. this is what i plan on doing with our clown project. plan on throwing our queenspin male to our female clown. if i get really lucky and hit a queenspin het clown male and can breed him back to his mom.. that would be one wicked clutch o' clowns. ;)
