Ok, on to bedding?

Ok, once I get the tub, on to bedding.
Now, remember I am blind, so for a minute, think of how you would take care of your snakes tub, with your eyes closed.

At first I thought the repti-carpet might be a good option for me, but now I'm not so sure.

I need something that would be easy to feel messes.

Just doing paper towels seems like it might also be pretty easy to check and feel what might need to be changed...


So, thoughts, tips, and or concerns?

I think paper towels, newspaper or any other paper substrate would be the easiest for you.

newspaper of course. I get rolls of unprinted newspaper that are on a paper dispenser where I can tear off the right length to perfectly fit my tubs. I've used just about every substrate available at one time or another and I always keep coming back to newspaper because it's so much cleaner and easier to use.

I agree with paper towels. Wood shavings would not be a good option for you because they tend to hide messes, and will mask the scent. I don't think you'll find the need to 'feel' any messes so much as smell them. Even snake pee is pretty potent smelling when just using a paper substrate.

Sense I've never done this before, I figured asking a few people who have done it a while might give some perspective on things to consider. Sounds like it should be pretty straight forward?

Say I go with some paper towels, just to do the tub testing for temps/humidities, how much should you use?
Just a sheet or 2 deep? Several?

Also, would it be smart not to change bedding while the snake is new, or should this not affect the snake.
I.E, going from paper towels to a newspaper type?

That would be a little more helpfull, me doing a hand sweep of the tank might startle the snake at first until it gets used to it.

Just a single layer is enough.

Changing from paper towels to newspaper shouldn't be an issue at all.

I use two layers turning up the edges so I overlap all the sides of the tub by a couple of inches. Kind of like they're in a very shallow paper bowl. They usually make their messes in a corner and this way I can just roll up the paper and don't have to worry about scrubbing poo off the side of the tub.

Well, my snakes tend to crawl under the newspaper to do their business sometimes, lol :ohmygod:
