Flattening head?!
I scared my BEL Texas Rat and he flattened his head like that of the shape of a rattlesnake and rattled his tail!!! It was crazy! lol.
Is that normal, do other snakes do that?
-
I've seen kings do this, never a rat snake though.
-
That Zeejay.... always suprising me lol. His head is normal now. I guess he learned a new trick. haha

It's pretty normal. They do that to look like a rattler on purpose to deter predators or danger away. Pretty cool defensive mechanism, imo. Evolution is awesome.
-
Hoggies do that, it's pretty adorable.
-
A few other snakes will do that when threaten or when irritated, hognose is one of them as well.

Re: Flattening head?!
Interesting. Between my 2 rats, I've never noticed something like what you're describing.

That's so neat.... none of my other snakes have done that.... it seems like Zeejay does something new and strange everyday..... he's a brainy little one. lol. Like today he surprised me by begging for food. He stood straight up, tongue flicking like crazy, and following me around (in his tank) while I was going around feeding my turtles some f/t mice. lol. What a personality he's got.
