Depressed snake?

About two weeks ago one of my fiance's Ball Pythons passed away for still unknown reasons now the other tank mate is staying in her hide and she won't come out. At first she was attacking the tank if someone even walked by and now she is just staying in one spot. Granted it looks like she about to shed but I worry about her as she is all my fiance has left of his beloved snakes. I didn't know if she would die once she knew her mate of 11 years had passed or go on being her moody self as always. My fiance keeps saying to give her time but I worry about her just like I worried about our male snake that passed away. I don't want to go through loosing anymore animals and she cannot die and I will do everything in my power to save her if that is what is happening. Can someone please help me?

calm down, take a nice long deep breath. please don't take anything I am about to say as rude for one thing there maybe other people that will tell you the same thing I am about to say. 1rst and formost, snakes don't have emotions like we do. there only emotions are really fight or flight, kind of like the fact they don't like to be handled they learn to accept or tolerate it. If anything this snake was probley glad to be rid of the other snake. ball pythons amongst most if not all snakes are not social creatures accept during times of breeding, and should never be housed together except by well advanced keepers and even those keepers will normaly tell you it is not a very great IDEA. One there is health issues one snake can develope health issues may require feccal samples to be checked out by vet, there is no way of knowing what snake had the bowl movement, or the illness can be given to the other snake. this is why a lot of keepers will querentene new animals for at least 90 days to see if any health problems arise. also, though very rare in BPs, there is a slight chance of canablism. When two snakes are in the same cage what may seem like cuddling is really the two fighting over the same enviroment such as wanting the warm side or the cool side. a BP that moves around alot is normaly stressed, if the bp is hiding you have a happy bp that feels secure. that is really all I can offer on advice if there is more to offer I am sure some others will chime in...

^x2 a simple way to think of BPs brain function is by imagining a binary system. Safe or dangerous, hot or cold, food or not. That being said the BP is not complex enough to develop sentiment toward its tankmate.

From what I can tell though she did seem to care somewhat. I mean they had been tank mates for 11 years and for her to suddenly completely change in personality (get worse in teperment)... I understand what you all may think but I am telling you what I am seeing. Both snakes when my fiance got them were badly abused, Kah was tossed in a dumpster and my fiance cared for him, and Set was being handled by crack heads who were burning her . She was always the stronger one and they got along really well and never tried to hurt one another ever, I was always the one keeping and eye on them I have been the one taking care of them recently and both of us are the ones grieving over Kah. She has been acting so strange since he died, she hasn't been acting like herself at all... So please don't tell me they don't feel... I used to have photo's of them drinking out of the water bowl together and huddled together for days and days... I understand logic but maybe this is outside of your logic... You aren't here and haven't been here to witness any of what has happened or is going on currently...

You posted on this forum asking for people's advice knowing that none of us have been there to "witness any of what has happened or is going on currently..." they are just trying to help. Your anthropomorphism is going a little too far, but that is your choice... anyone can interpret any behavior as you have, doesn't mean there aren't other more logical explanations, regardless of what you may have witnessed yourself.

Your snake may be acting different because "something" is different in her tank... not necessarily that she "misses" the one who passed...
