More pictures of the black pastel lesser (and a question)

He's getting bigger! He's eating small rats but still eating live. I tried another f/t last week and it was the same as before.. He struck it, coiled, then left it. I left it over night but he didn't eat it. He had a little shed stuck to the top of his head so I gave him a little soak in a spare 10g tank I have. He seemed okay for a few minutes but quickly tried to get out. I don't think the water was too hot, it was lukewarm. Maybe he's just not a swimmer, I'm not sure if he had ever been soaked before.


I have a question tough! He seems to be very active when I try to hold him. I was wondering if that was common for balls or if it could be his age or what... He's a late 2012 as far as I know. He doesn't try to get away from me, he just always wants up my arms or up my chest but I don't feel comfortable having him super close to my face quiet yet.

First off, he's gorgeous!! One thing you might want to try with the F/T is shaking and lightly tugging on the rat after he's coiled. Simulate a struggle that a live rat may give. I've found this works sometimes.

Thank you! He's my first lol but I really wanna add more eventually :P I can certainly try that, I would just be nervous about spooking him.

Once they have a good coil they normally don't let go. I've switched several live eaters onto F/T using that trick. Eventually I stopped the shaking and they got the point lol.

all of my balls move when i hold em i think its good u got a active snake ,, the only time there really dont move is when there new and not used to being picked up ..

I've also wondered about F/T since my snakes all eat pre killed( Ive never fed them live rats larger than smalls) because they seem so used to the freshness of a rat. But I've heard they really don't see a difference especially when they are actually hungry.

Yea but don't over wiggle and have it bump them, because they'll just pull back. Do it in front of them or sometimes just lay the tip of the head on them and slowly drag it across so they see it. Once they hit it do a slight wiggle to make him constrict more and you should be okay. If that doesn't work, just put it in front of him and let him in peace and see if he eats it then.]

He's very pretty! I think with handling they calm down, but then again I have young and old snakes that will lay in your hand and none have been handled very much. Maybe it depends on the snake as well, I don't really know.
