You are watching jack Hanna's and they say boa constrictors have heat pits to " sense their prey" and you end up in a full blown face palm.....

Goood I hate happen stuff like that happens!! :slamhead: lol

LOL. It's amazing the stupidity that they put in movies and in shows. I mean honestly if you don't know what you're talking about then don't talk about it.

I was always under the impression boa constrictors don't have heat pits. Emeralds and amazons do. Also some have suggested boas have thermal scales or what not near their lip. However those are not pits. Pythons have pits.

Experts may chime in if I'm wrong. Which is a strong possibility

I'm assuming you're talking to the OP. I was just speaking in general with what I said about stupidity. I see in numerous movies and shows that they refer to venomous snakes a poisonous, and how they say that Anaconda's eat people and what not.

I know they sense heat from cells on the lips though they don't have the visible pits that BP's do and vipers. But I wasn't going to get into this long discussion about it because I'm on my cell phone.

They do have them, they just lack the the labial pits that surround the cells like you notice on the ball pythons and whatever other snakes have them. So technically they don't have the "pits" but they do have the same ability to sense heat from the same cells.

Yes I know they can sense heat from the scales, also I may add it was not a boa in the program. But a python of some species

Just something interesting..... experts now know that the nerves that go from the heat pits go to the exact same place in their brains that the nerves from their eyes go to. So they now believe that the snake doesn't just sense the heat from the prey, they can actually see, or visualize in some way the prey possibly like our thermal cameras do. I think nature is sooooo incredible.
