heating lamp??

What is better to use for a heat lamp? I like the red heat basking lamp that way I can see at night but is that okay to use all day? It says will not disturb day and night cycles, but will my bp get enough light durning the day with this bulb? Or should I get a diffrent light, any suggestions?

The red ones are decent and do a good job of upping overall ambient temps and you can leave them on 24x7 - just watch it doesn't leech your humidity away. Use the decent ones that are made of red glass not the cheap coated "party bulbs" as the red coating will thin out from the heat and eventually the light will shift into the spectrum visible by snakes - and leaving THAT kind of light on all night is bad stress. If you get zoo Med bulbs see if they will test them in the store for you - not sure why but I have bought SO many of that brand that blew the filament the first or second time it was turned on.

Presently I use a red bulb for Sophie's enclosure along w/a human heat pad, but also must use the DIY humidifier as the lamp does leech the humidity away.

I ahd been using the red basking lights but w/ the new cage I am using the black lights which make viewing cool and Ozzy doesn't even seem to notice it.
Lights do suck the humidity. My AP cage is hanging right around 53-55 w/ the lights where as before the lights it was about 63-70%

ball pythons don't need false light for any reason,they are nocturnal animals so using a light during the day is not needed unless it's to heat the cage and if so i would use a inferred bulb and put it on a thermostat regulator,but those lights are good for use at night

Yes, the only reason I use a light (and it is a black light but they call it a 'red' bulb) is for heat.

ok im kinda confused, i have a heat lamp on during the day but at night i shut it off, the undertank heater is always on.Should i get a red light to keep the temps up during the night ??

70, one night like the first night i had him it fell to 60 i was so scared !

Get it so it doesn't dip below 75 - you def don't want prolonged exposure to subpar temperatures. Are you taking readings on ground level?
