    feeding question
I got Shyman a little over a month ago he was 218g.... I got him to eat 1 small mouse the 2nd week... 1med mouse 3rd week... 4th week a rat pup that was about to open its eye. When I got him the lady told me he was 9 months old so 10 months now. He's about 2 or 2 1/2 feet long. What should I feed him? I wanna feed the right side but I don't wanna get too small/ too big. I really wanna feed rat BC their better for BP's. I just want to be the best owner I can. I don't handle him much BC I don't want to stress him... he stays in his hides a lot but every now and then I watch him vencher out.

Generally when they are that small, people will suggest you feed them 10-15% of their body weight every 5-7 days.

Or you can just offer a rat that is the same size as your snakes girth.

Easiest way? Buy a digital kitchen scale. Weigh your snake in grams, feed it a prey item 10-15% of the snake's body mass every 5-7 days. It sounds like you're on the right track with the rat pups, though.

BPs hide. A hiding BP is a happy one. As long as he's eating and isn't roaming during the day (BPs are nocturnal) then I would start out with 5-10 minute handling sessions every day or every other day and slowly work up from there.

By the time my BPs are that size I'm either feeding them jumbo mice or rat pups of similar size if they will take them. Rat pups aren't necessarily better for them, but once they get bigger, if their stuck on mice, it's a pain to have to feed 6-8 mice at a time. I have never weighed a rodent before feeding. They are not so fragile that if the rat is a few grams bigger than the rule they'll puke or not digest right. They are not Emerald Tree Boas.

I always feed 10-15% of the snakes' weight. Works great !
