    PE-2, and Live feeding question...
Okay, so Today I Tried feeding Ollie LIVE for the first time. He struck at it twice, but the mouse sniffed him and he balled up, and wouldn't touch it.

So I killed the mouse, and tried feeding him like I normally do. He wouldn't touch it. I Left it for hours, and he just slithered away from it into his other hide.

I guess that's a good thing? Because I didn't really wanna do live anyway. The feed store was out of frozen until next week, which looks like he'll have to wait for now for a week..

Also, I got a PE-2, and I cleared out a spot of substrate, shot it RIGHT at the thermometer probe, and it read 80 degrees. Not the 93 that my Hydrofarm says it's been at.

Could this be a bug? I have an ACU-RITE probe sitting right on top of it, that reads the same as my thermostat give or take a degree, all the time, and depending on my heat lights.

Temp guns don't read very well on reflective/shiny surfaces. Have you tried using the temp gun on another surface to verify if it is working properly?

I don't know the accuracy of the PE-2, but many temp guns are +/-4 degrees F. Your hydrofarm probe and acurite probe have an accuracy between +/-2 and +/- 4 degrees F. This means that you can have readings 8 degrees apart and all of your equipment is still working properly. (one reading 4 below the actual temperature, and the other reading 4 above the actual temperature)

I would trust the acurite probe more than a temp gun. Neither are terribly accurate tools, but there are fewer variables playing when it comes to the acurite

Yep. I have. Tested my AC, current temp coming out of the vent is what I have it set to..

Tested the fridge, Thermometer in fridge says the same thing...

Do you think the PE-2 was a bad purchase? Also, what about feeding Live? Did i scar him for life? LoL..

Personally I'm not a big fan of the cheaper temp guns. I don't think the PE-2 was a bad purchase, but you have to keep its limitations in mind when using it.

Try measuring the temperature of the top of the substrate over the hot spot with it. This is probably the best way to use a temp gun in a tub. They only measure surface temperatures, and have difficulty reading anything reflective.

Did that. It read 77 degrees. Not the 93 on my Thermometer.

Was this before or after you moved the substrate around?

Seems to be working okay now. Weird, It was not reading right with the Daytime bulb, but with the night time bulb, its reading exactly what Acu Rite says

I have a pe-1 temp gun and also a fluke temp gun. the pe-1 temp gun is right on with the expensive fluke. I believe the fluke is + or - 1 degree also.
