hi everybody, i was going to order frozen mice today on the internet today when i started thinking, yesterday i tried feeding frozen again but it didnt work becuase the mouse was to cold i think (i posted about what happened and somebody told me it wasnt warm enough) and i thought that i should just go buy live mice, kill them and then feed them, that way there would be no problems with the mouses tempature. The only problem with that is i hate killing poor little mice. what is the best thing to do ? any tips on getting the mouse warm enough ??

p.s (sorry about the double post on the giant forum)

Placing the mouse under the heat lamp for a period of time works the best IMO.

I mean this in the nicest way possible- owning a ball python is going to require you to kill rodents whether you like it or not. Obviously you won't have to kill them once you get fully switched to f/t, but I assume he had been eating live or p/k up until now?

Amber is uninterested in a thawed out rodent, so I have to rat bash on a weekly basis. I'll be honest, I really don't like doing it at all. I've even thought about taking one feeder rat home and keeping it as a pet to feel better that I saved at least one. I love animals, all animals, including my feeders. Its just a necessary evil and itspart of my responsibilty as a snake keeper.

right, i feel kinda bad for the feeders too, mainly becuase i have rodents as pets also. but my snake is a pet and i have to be responsible for feeding him and if he eats mice then thats what im going to feed him. i guess i just need to get over it. he was eating live fuzzies and i didnt feel bad when HE killed and ate them but i would feel bad doin it.

    what?
Again, I think the quickest and most effective way to thaw a mouse is to put it in a ziploc bag and fill up your bathroom sink with hot water, then put the bag in the water for about 5minutes. Make sure you have something holding the bag down in the water though or it will float ^_^ When you thaw your mouse, try doing this next time. Don't be afraid to touch the mouse to see if its warm enough either. I got over that on my second mouse ^_^ If its warm to the touch, its probably warm enough, and if your BP still won't take it, put it back in the bag and try putting it directly under the faucet for a few seconds.

And if killing your rats makes ya feel bad, just pretend its one of those "Ebola" rats ^_^ If I have to do it for my BP when I get her, which I probably won't have to do since the one I want is already on F/T, I'll picture it infecting thousands of people with Ebola and I'm just doing my duty by eradicating it!
