    uth burnt out
I just checkedthe temps in the tank and the temp in the hot spot is on a steady decline. Our uth burnt out. This is the second time that happened. It is one we got at petsmart. Not sure of brand. Is there a kind we can trust? I'm tired of wasting money

Ultra therm. I think reptile basics carries them.

I've become a fan of the Exoterra ones and have 2 which have not failed me after a year+. Not a fan of the Zoomeds, they only ever lasted 3-6mo tops.

We also like our ultra therms. We got them from reptile basics. Email rich and he'll tell you the size pad you need for the enclosure size and room temps.

we arent using one. i know we are supposed to but with the bedding the temp stays a constant 94.3 in the hot spot, other than last night when it temporarily quit working.

What's the temperature on the glass above the uth with the substrate pushed away. The snake can push bedding around and get down to hotter temps. A unregulated uth is a big no no. Get a dimmer switch from hardware store if you can't afford a thermostat

94 is too hot for the hotspot anyway. If it's that hot on tip of the bedding I'm betting it's like 100 on the glass, at least. Yowch!

And you wonder why your UTH burned out.

Any heat source MUST be regulated, a thermostat is not a useless gadget it is the single most important piece of equipment when it comes to husbandry.

Snake will burrow so even if you think that your substrate in someway protects your snake, think again.

Additionally any heat source can and will over heat which means not only it could result in severe burns, death but a fire and loosing your house is also a possibility.

Do yourself a favor buy a RELIABLE UTH and a RELIABLE thermostat the best place to do so is here. http://www.reptilebasics.com/
