would a 4'x2'x2' be too big for an adult ball python? i want to build one for my ball python but ive heard that they get stressed out if their enclosure is too big:confusd:

You would need to clutter it up pretty good to make him <or her> feel secure in something so big. Honestly, I'd have a field day with something that big. Like a jungle canopy type set up :D

I've never understood the whole too big setup argument. Africa is a massive land area, and they live there naturally.

We are throwing them in a cage that fits in a house. To big?

Make it as huge as you want! They are going to feel safe and secure in the hides you provide ;)

You can make it as nice as you want, but I think in the end you'll be disappointed in how much of the cage your snake actually uses. I would chop that down to something like 40"X20"X18". A cage with dimensions you're planning would be better suited for a semi-arboreal boa or maybe a blood python. Also have you considered what it will take to properly heat and ventilate an enclosure with 32 cubic feet of space?

I'd say PVC and glass/acrylic is your best bet. PVC is very light and easy to clean. It also holds humidity really well!

I would also cut down the height a bit. 2' is quite a bit. maybe 12-18" as suggested above.

4' x 2' x 2' (L x W x H) will be fine, though there is no need for the extra height. A 4' x 2' x 1' Will be easier to heat and maintain humidity in. This is what I use. I buy my cages from a company called animal plastics. Their T8 cage can house 1 BP or 2 if you buy the optional cage divider.

    The cage on top in the picture below is a T8 (4' x 2' x 1') The cage below it is a T12 (4' x 2' x 2') Below that is an 8" stand for the cages.
