Enclosure Troubles!
Setting up my tub for my first ball python! I am following http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...e-Basics-*DUW* guide in which he is using a 32 quart sterilite tub. Those are now replaced by the 28 qt sterilite tub. I looked up both dimensions they are the same length and floor space, the height is just different on the 32. He said he is using 2 medium hides from reptile basics. I bought those and when i put the hides in the tub just to see how it will look, it hardly fits and leaves almost zero space. Something is wrong not sure what to do.

Here is the picture, any suggestions? This will be for a male baby ball python. No room to even fit a water bowl.

Re: Enclosure Troubles!
If you're getting a baby, as in under 300 grams, I'd start with the size small hides.

Ok, so I will only use one of those hides and get a smaller one as well. I will also fill it with decorations.

Re: Enclosure Troubles!
You really won't need decorations, the hides you get should be just large enough so they're a snug fit for the youngster. They also don't need a huge water bowl. Get several small ones and just change them 2-3 times a week, or whenever your baby potties in it, or when he dumps it, or when... ;)

ok so I finally have my enclosure setup and I am running into problems. Here are pictures to show my setup. I just feel like no what how high i raise the thermostat the heatpad isn't warm enough. When I touch it over the newspaper i feel zero warmth and when i touch it right on the plastic it BARELY feels warm here is what everything is reading. It is a zoomed medium UTH btw. I have the UTH stuck to the plastic with aluminium foil tape around it along with the probe for the thermostat and on top inside the tub is the sensor for the thermometer. This is the same setup as the sticky in this forum on how to setup a tub enclosure.

Re: Enclosure Troubles!
Well its reading all those different temperatures on those screens i have pictures of different screens there one says in one says out... But that one screen is reading in the 70s are my temps good right now? As u see the thermostat and the thermometer are not reading the same even though the probes are in the same spot

If i read your thermometer correct, cool side is high 70s, hot side is low 90s. Both are great!! Best of luck!
Oh, and as someone else mentioned, if you are getting a small ball python, your medium hide will probably be too large. You can get the small ones which should fit perfect. Or you can go to the dollar store, buy some small bowls, my store has 3 for $1.25. Flip the bowls over, cut an opening with your soldering iron and your good to go! Make sure the opening is smooth and not jagged or sharp.

Re: Enclosure Troubles!
Ok, yea i just thought it was odd i had to set the thermostat so high to reach that temperature, i will keep watch on it. Makes sense about our body temp just felt odd being able to not feel the heat on on the newspaper
