I have had my baby for about 4 months now and have had trouble keeping the humidity up, but I moved the tank to a smaller enclosed room, and now the humidity is fine, but my snake still has some shedding issues,

You should black out 3 sides of the tank with construction paper, poster, or something like that. What are you using for heat?

I would also ditch the humidity gauge that you have. I recently switched to this and I'm really happy with it. I tested the humidity with the below test kit, was spot on, didn't need any calibration. Temperature reading was also spot on.

With a glass tank I used this to insulate the bottom and back of the tank

I try to keep the humidity around 50/60 and the temp on the hot side is about 86. I use a heat mat to keep it warm and a heap lamp as well.

Don't use the adhesive backing that comes with it, any type of adhesive inside the tank is bad. I would use a hot glue gun to adhere it inside the cage.

Question #1 should always be...are you using a UTH and if so, do you have it hooked up to a thermostat?

Beyond that, yes, blacken out the sides and back in some fashion. That makes them feel more secure in their surroundings.

A nice thermometer is the Acurite w/ probe that you can get from Walmart for about $12.00. The probe is perfect for hot spot temp while the body keeps check on your ambient temp and humidity.

A great way to maintain humidity is to cover the top with tape covered foil, leaving about 20% uncovered for air flow. Also you can change substrate to reptibark or Eco earth <or a mixture of both>, those tend to hold it longer under dryer conditions. You can also use plexiglass, drilling holes and cutting out a spot for a heat lamp if necessary.

At 4 months, your little guy is still a baby and will be overwhelmed by wide open spaces so clutter is good. Some use crumpled paper, others use vines and leaves to fill in that space.

    Hope this helps...
