    frozen feeder rats... Help!
ive read bad reviews for the arctic mice brand frozen feeders. a friend of mine recommended to buy online. every site i checked had decent priced mice (much cheaper than arctic mice) but everything i can find has ridiculous shipping $40-$60.:O for that price i ought to just by the arctic brand.

where do you get your frozen feeders? and are they decently priced?:confusd:

I'm in the same boat. With 1 BP and not a lot of freezer space, it's not economical to order online. One alternative is to find a local feeder supply at a local reptile show, there's always lots of vendors and you can have the number you need set aside for you behind thecounter until the end of the day. Otherwise you're stuck with buying from Petco/Smart, not something I like to do but with little transportation options, that's what I get. I considered switching to live and going to a local store for feeders, but they're even more poorly run than the corporate buildings.

I have a chest freezer and make two orders a year for my collection. If you can not store a bulk order the doping is bad but for the amounts I order it is much cheaper than buying local frozen feeders.

I use RodentPro and have always been satisfied. They are good quality and arrive in great condition. Sign up for their emails and you will get coupons and notices of what they call hot deals.

At the moment I've been buying my frozen feeders from my local pet store. However I found a local breeder that offers both live and frozen. I'm going over there later today to see his rats and if the place seems good I will buying through him. Try putting an ad on your local craigslist that you are looking for frozen feeders. You might get lucky and find a breeder that is local.

Have you tried putting an add up on craigslist looking for local breeders? I had several replies that way but I now buy all of my feeders from http://loxahatcheerodents.com/estore/ because they're not far from me so shipping is lower and the rats and mice are really clean.

I've used RodentPro in the past, as well as a local rat guy, but now with the rescue work I do, I just raise my own. It's not really worth it to raise them for just a few snakes though. You're going to find shipping is about the same across the board, since they have to send it fast, and with dry ice to keep everything frozen.

I use Big Cheese Rodent Factory. I pay around $30.00 for shipping, but like previously stated I buy in bulk as well. Enough to last 26 weeks and justify the shipping cost. :)

One more thing to add on the topic:

F/T is an item line on my budget. I look at my most recent order and divide what I paid for it over the length of time it will last and use the resulting figure plus 10 to 15 bucks and move that into a savings account I have for purchasing rodents. Works out great for me and it doesn't hurt the wallet. Hope it helps. :)

Another option is to find a few people close to you who also keep snakes, place one order for all of you, and split the shipping cost.

I also have a chest freezer dedicated to strictly rats, and I also make 2 orders a year from rodent pro. Buying 6 months in advance pretty much cancels out the shipping cost. For the amount I buy, even with shipping costs, is WAY cheaper than rats at the store. Say I spend $600 (I think it's more than that now) for a 6 month supply, and that's with shipping. I calculated it out and if I was to get the same amount at the store it's more than double that, over $1200!
For one snake, no it's probably not worth it since meat is only good for about 6 months in the freezer. The cost of shipping spreads out to all the rats and only add cents to the cost of each one.
A large rat at my local store is $9. In bulk with the shipping cost spread out, it ends up being about $2.15 for a large
