vibrating snake
yes, this is sort of a gold mine for those who insist on making snake-sex jokes, but this morning i opened my 2200g female's tub to check on her and i put my hand on the last of the first third of her body and it felt like she was lightly vibrating or very quietly buzzing in an electric, tickly way, and it stopped one second after touching her. I moved my hand up one inch towards her head and the buzzing feeling had moved, i pulled back my hand because i was worried that maybe there was an electric current coming from my heat tape or something? and i replaced my hand again one inch from the 2nd spot and it happened again, and then stopped completely regardless of where i put my hand. She was dead asleep when i first touched her. I couldn't see any "vibrating" movement, only felt it. Temps are 91-93 hotspot, 85 ambient, because i've got another snake in the rack with stomatitis, humidity around 60%. She's on 11-inch heat tape in a 41qt sterilite tub. has this happened to anyone else?

Is there any chance that the tape you use to hold the heat tape down foil tape? I ask this because that's what I used when I first built my rack, and I may have taped a little too far up and it gave off a nice electric current. I was curious and touched both sides at once.... Lets just say I'm not doing that again. :D

I'm curious about this as well. Every time I go to pick up my hog island boa, I've always thought I felt like an electric buzzing throughout his body until I get him out of the cage. Until now, I just kind of dismissed it as just me. He is in a custom wooden enclosure, heated by a 1 foot section of 11" heat tape that's covered by ceramic tile, so I know there is nothing electrical exposed in the enclosure at all.

my heat tape isn't held or taped down. my rack is a black metal utility rack from target. if i need to do more than just crack the lid and look at the snake, i pick up the whole tub and place it on the floor. i'm so glad i'm not the only person this has happened to! i've had a rack full of snakes for almost 4 years and this has never happened before.

I've had that same experience from time to time with different snakes. I've noticed it happens more often with the BPs, but my boa Ryuu will do it sometimes as well. I think it's just something that they do, in my case it has absolutely nothing to do with the cage or heat tape, since I use regular UTHs with thermostats and it's happened in different cages.
I've no idea what exactly it is, but it's interesting. :)

It feels so weird! I have a Hog Island that does it sometimes. It's happened while she was on the Flexawatt and while she was away from it. I take it as a 'stranger alert' from her.
