Oh my God, I just got my first bite since starting to keep ball pythons...and it came from a rat! Does it still count as a tag?

Nope, you're still not in the club :) But IMO, rat bites are always worse than snake bites.

Rat bites are definitely worse. Haha. BP bites feel like you got your finger stuck in an angry zipper. Rat bites feel like a large-gauge needle.

..Rats...Its odd some of my friends are terrified of snakes but have no problem holding rats. If only they knew which one bit harder. A enjoy a fierce rat that wants to try and bite, they quickly find out that I have other pets who also like to bite :D

Well, that's reassuring. Any advice on a better way to remove a rat from a snake that's not eating? I don't want to leave them overnight, but I also don't want to get bitten. I was watching the snake so closely that it didn't cross my mind the rat might be mad at me for putting it in there in the first place, lol.

A nice thick welder's glove or grill tongs both work wonders for removing nasty prey. Sorry about the bite!

Get some thongs and remove it. They can get pretty nippy when cornered
