ANOTHER SNAKE BAN: this time they want your boas.
i know many of you could care less about burms and condas being added to the Lacey Act, but what if they added boa constrictors? this would make it a FELONY to transport boas across state lines. do you realize how many people FEED THEIR CHILDREN by breeding boas, and how many others enjoy keeping them? if you ever planned on getting a boa in the future, especially a morph of some kind, and they're added to the Lacey Act, good luck. what if you own a boa and want to move out of state? guess what? you're committing a FELONY. not to mention the retics and other anacondas they want to ban as well.
congress passes these laws because they work as a "team" of sorts. the only way we'll be able to stop them from passing these laws is if we came together as a team. fill this out. it literally took me 3 minutes. it's the least you can do.

at the bottom of the page are some letters from the "anti-pet groups" claiming their reasons for pursuing the ban of these animals.
this is part of one:
"The FWS, in partnership with many organizations, has spent more than $6 million since 2005 attempting to combat the growing problem of Burmese pythons and other large invasive constrictor snakes in Florida where they are consuming endangered and threatened species and have decimated as much as 99 percent of the area’s small and medium sized native mammals."
99 percent.. REALLY?? imagine the people sitting in congress reading these letters that have no inside knowledge of what we do and the joys we have keeping our pets. you can imagine they'd be quick to sign the ban.
mods: i know this probably should've been in the pet laws and legislation section, but i figured it was still relevant here and would receive more traffic. if it has to be moved, i understand.

However, just to be clear, any hobbyist should absolutely care about Burms and Retics too whether they own one or not. I do. And no, I do not own one of either species. But I signed all the petitions against the ban on them and I'd do so again. We all must stick together on this. Anyone who has an interest in reptiles should sign this one (or send the email as the case may be) too whether they own a boa or not. :gj:
exactly. i own a retic as well, which they are trying to add to the list too, but i figured with boas being much more widely kept this would generate more attention.
ALSO: USFWS (i.e. the bad guy) is trying to pass a law lifting the requirements to add any animal to the Lacey Act. in order for burms, retics, anacondas, boas etc. to be added, extensive research must be done regarding how likely they are to become an invasive species vs how much money they generate in the hobby. burmese, retics, and anacondas are not nearly the money generators that ball pythons are, so with the current legislation they would have a difficult time adding ball pythons to the Lacey Act.
IF THIS LAW PASSES, OUR BALL PYTHONS WILL BE NEXT. there is no doubt about it. they can add our BALL PYTHONS to the list as an invasive species with no scientific evidence to back it.
I don't think people realize the implications to this. This is the BIGGEST threat our hobby has ever been under.
here is another link to oppose this separate legislation as well:

Is this just an American thing or can Canadians sign too?
(not sure if it affects me, but either way, I`ll sign)
