My Mexican Black King just shed last night. I looked him over this morning to make sure he looked okay and noticed what looked like part of one of his scales is missing. I immediately examined the shed and found the 'missing piece'. Just a few days prior to him turning blue I had noticed what looked like a piece of skin/shed on this scale. I thought perhaps this was another indicator that he was about to shed (although I'd not seen it before I knew he was due to shed soon so thought all was okay). Some time ago he got loose in my room for a few minutes (it was my fault but that's another story) and I wonder if the scale got caught as I was trying to retrieve him and possibly injured it?

I'm looking for any thoughts as to what this might be, why it happened and what I need to do to treat it. If needed I can post a pic.

    Thank you in advance!

I don't think its anything to worry about Tiger ^_^ You take excellent care of your snakes so he should be fine. Though maybe if you want to make sure then maybe soak him for a few minutes in some warm water? I heard some people talk about soaking snakes with skin/scale injuries to help healing. But I don't think he really needs it ^_^ Sounds to me like part of his scale just came off is all. I assume he injured that particular scale earlier and it just came off with the shed. I bet it will clear up in a shed or two!

Or I could be totally wrong... T_T

Yeah, what little info I found about similiar situations sounds like it should grow back after some sheds. I was thinking of trying a short soak and add some Neosporin, but then I was wondering if he'd need to go back on paper towels so the substrate doesn't stick to the Neosporin.

    Thanks for the compliment!

I think a soak should be sufficient enough ^_^
