Selling babies before first shed?

I personally wait till my babies have shed and eaten at least 2/3 meals before i see them to there prospective new owners. I have just seen a growing trend whether on Fauna , Kingsnake or CL of breeders rushing their babies to the door. Or i never really noticed till now, but how do you feel or have you sold hatchlings straight from the egg? safe? opinions?do you have stipulations upon purchase?:confuzd:

I have purchased whole clutches a day after they are out of the egg.
Never had an issue. If your Husbandry is proper, they will thrive.

Unless I know the buyer is capable of starting newborns, and has a particular reason for wanting them so young then I refuse to do it.

Any problems down the line are firmly on the seller in my mind and I see no reason to leave myself open to that.

I wouldn't support any "breeders" like that. Sounds like they care about cash more than the snakes they produce.
The only way I would see this being somewhat OK would be if the seller and buyer have a close relationship.

As some of you know, I'm a huge fan of Tarantulas. On most Tarantula forums, if you are selling stuff that's not ready to go. You'll be banned.

I wish more places would tighten the rules on such things. This includes show and expos. Seems like there is that crowd that cares for cash over the animals.

This hurts everyone in our hobby.

x2 This is right where I am at and also support with proper husbandry just about anything will thrive. Just found it so interesting to be selling hatchlings so soon, then again I have also seen a growing number of new breeders popping up with very limited knowledge and experience.

I could see advertising them for sale and taking deposits or payments in full if it's a really stellar clutch, but only with the caveat that the babies won't ship until after their third meal.

I will be a little more clear.
I do this so I can start them on the food I am feeding.
Lot easier then trying to switch later.
....and yes, it is from breeders I totally trust.

I don't like it unless it's a hand to hand transaction between experienced keepers. I think shipping a snake is extremely stressful and to do that to a newborn animal suggests lack of consideration. On top of this it makes a whole mess of liability.

We keep all of our hatchlings, snakes or geckos, for at least 1-3 months before listing them for sale. Unless we are selling to friends or big names within the hobby that we know can care for the animals. Even so, we won't ship anything that isnt well started for at least a month, it has to be local.
