    New housing setup...HELP!
    Hey everyone...here is my problem...
I just finished setting up ny new vision cage for my BP and I cant seem to get any of the settings right. My temp is too low and humidity is too high. My setup is as follows:
    Vison cage 211
    UTH on thermostat
    1/3 inch substrate
Hide and water dish on seperate side of the tank
Thermometer with probe at the top back end of tank (so its not near the UTH)
Hydrometer with the probe at the other side of tank top end.

I have my thermostat set to 105 and the reading from my heat pad through the substrate is 78.9 everywhere else in the tank is at 72...humidity is at 82% which is way too high...I havent even misted it. The enclosure has been set up for 2 days. Will this stabilize? If not how do I lower the humidity? Are my probes in the wrong spot? Also the temp in my house is steady at 75 the tank is away from any air vents. Here are the pics of my setup.

Your probes are in the wrong places.

The thermostat probe needs to be attached to the UTH itself.

The thermometer probe needs to be on the floor of the cage directly over the UTH.

UTH's only heat the surface they touch. They aren't going to heat the air in the cage whatsoever. For this you will need a heat lamp or a fluorescent light.

You might have to switch to a different substrate, or dry the mulch in the oven. I know in my AP cages if I use any sort of mulch substrate my humidity goes through the roof.

Vision cages can be difficult to heat, but once you get everything set up and dialed in you shouldn't have too many issues.

Thanks for all the info! Sorry, the temp probe by the back was for the thermometer the one for the thermostat is directly attached to the heat pad, I will move the thermometer probe down to the bottom. What temp should I bake the substrate at, and for how long? Is the humidity probe in the right spot? Thanks again! Do you think i need a heat lamp to heat the air in the cage? Would that help with the humidity as well?

I would bake at 250 degrees for 30-45 minutes.

    The humidity probe is fine.

A heat lamp would good. Getting the air temp up to 80 ideal. This will also help lower your humidity.

You need to remove the tape from inside the cage. Tape can really do harm to your snake and I promise you it will check out the cage and come into contract with it.

I use these to run wires. http://www.lowes.com/pd_61624-170-C1...-confirm-store

I like them because I can still remove the wires without having to take it off and leaving residue everywhere. Now it does still have an adhesive but it is nothing like duct our foil tape. It also will not wrap around the snake. I Mount them high on the wall and even my big blood has not been able to knock it loose. It is a much better alternative than tape. They are also easy to cut to the size you need.

Changing to aspen should also help lower humidity. As for heating you can also try a radiant heat panel. I have seen them a few places but here's one. radiant-heat-panels

I removed the tape from the inside...i still have a small piece holding up the humidity probe, but will remove that in a few minutes, just trying to find a way to keep the wire from hanging loose.

where would the radiant heat panel install. inside the cage on the roof? Anyone have experience with these in vision cages, I talked to LLL Reptile today and they said the UTH should be fine by itself...?

You can hot glue the probe in place. Just glue the wire behind the probe not the probe itself.

I don't have those cages but do have some RHPs in some. They didn't work for me and I chose to heat the room instead of mess with them. I was trying to heat 4x2x15" cages and the cool side would not get warm enough.

I do use one for my GTP and it works great to provide his hotspot.
