this is why we candle eggs

I got some nice pictures to share with you guys :) .. the clutch: 9 eggs, all looking good it seems

however on closer inspection (candling), here are the results -> 8 look great with pink colour and good veins, like this one

this egg is unfortunatelly only viable for an omelette :D
still not a bad clutch result for an old 3.7kg female
also just because I feel proud of myself :D here are the final season results for me, with all the clutches baking in the incubator .. out of 9 females i bred 7 had clutches, I would say a good result considering it is my first season breeding ever

Nice candling pictures, I can never seem to get good pics of that.

Next time just leave the questionable egg in there and you'll know soon enough if it was not meant to be...

I agree. Keep it in there for a while n youll know soon enough. Then if its not meant to be, it def be great monitor food as said above :D

the egg is still there I haven't thrown it out yet :D - I do that when there are unmistakable signs that the egg has gone bad .. so let's see if my case is the same as in the article TheSnakeGeek linked, hoping for the best :D

We always incubate eggs until they get covered with mold for a few weeks, then we will cut them to see what went wrong. We haven't run into this with BPs yet as I have only done one clutch.

What we do with geckos though since the eggs are almost always seperated when laid is we simply move problem eggs to their own deli cup and continue to incubate. We have seen previously thought infertiles hatch, we have seen 50% covered in mold eggs hatch, and we have seen concave eggs hatch.

I am hopeing to learn how to seperate BP and retic eggs safely so we can continue to do the same. Moral of the story is, dont throw bad eggs out, incubate them until there is no possible chance that an animal inside could be living.

I keep mine in until they are starting to rot, which is unmistakable given the stench they give off.
