Eating backwards??

I have a jungle jag male, the result of a jag/jag pairing. He is stunning, with awesome yellow and still under a year old (about 9 months). He is a voracious eater, and has started eating rat pups every 6 days, which leave a nice belly swell. Problem is, he eats them backwards. It has been two times with rat pups, both backwards. previous items were hit and miss on eating forwards or backwards. I have heard go to bigger prey, but there is no way he can take something bigger than a pup right now.

any help??

Well my carpet python just turned a year old and he eats one hopper a week. He is about 25 inches long and 153 grams. Carpet pythons can actually eat things a lot bigger that you think. Due to their slender body they can eat something 2-3 times bigger than their thickest body length. Let them be the judge of what they eat.

i dont mind him eating the size of a rat pup, just not sure why he is swallowing it backwards. I heat f/t in hot water for thawing.

Sometimes snakes grab it backwards. It's something that happens on occasion(even on successive occasions) and nothing to worry about or over think. Baby snakes are still learning the ways of hunting/eating so it'll happen more frequently than when they are older. My Oreo sometimes still eats something backwards and he's 12 years old.
