Hi guys, i need you opinions on these one. Someone is selling me this female rainbow boa. Shes 4y.o. Ready for breeding. But there is one issue, She has a wound on the tail due to bad shed as per the owner told me. Heres the pic.

Now, my question is. Is this a serious wound and will lead to death? Can she still breed?

It looks like necrosis caused by stuck shed on its tail but I'd still have a vet check it out and make sure it isn't some type of bacterial infection. It probably will not affect breeding but definitely want till it is cleared up before you introduce another animal to her.

I would tell the owner to call me after a vet has seen the snake and treated it. A tail doesn't get that bad overnight, it's a big red flag that the poor thing hasn't been cared for properly for quite a while.

x2, I would stay away from this animal until it is better.

    Poor snake :(

In that bad of health, its far from "ready to breed"

That's really bad, and should be seen by a vet right away. That is dying tissue, and will probably need the end of her tail amputated. If it is not treated, that tissue is just going to rot away and will probably continue moving up her body. That's probably quite painful as well for her.

Since I do rescue, I would take her, but I wouldn't pay anything for her, since it's going to cost quite a bit in vet bills. I'd be too worried about her being sold to someone else who wouldn't care about her tail.

Do you think i can still make her well? Does it really need the amputation?

To be completely honest that snake looks like it is in terrible condition. The current owner needs to get it to a vet and get it better before he/she even thinks of selling it. I highly doubt that snake will successfully breed this year. I would find another snake.

The tail looks dead. I would think amputation is unavoidable at this point. It is not going to be a cheap vet trip. Like others said, that did not happen with one shed. It looks like it has been neglected for a while.

What are they asking for it? At this point it would be a rescue. Its going to be several hundred dollars so I wouldn't pay anything. If you really want it I would meet the owner at a vet and get their opinion and see if the owner would let you take the snake for paying the bill. That is only if it is within the value of the snake and I doubt it is.

I agree with everyone, that took time to get like that and the current owner of the snake needs to take it to the vet. Personally I would not buy it..the fact that the owner let the snake get like that makes me believe them to be bad owners and are at the very least, negligent. And I wouldn't want to support them in any way....
