just got a used Vision Cage
Hey Everyone...I just scored a used vision cage for my new BP. (Model #221 i believe) I just got it home and hosed off all the spider webs. I am going to cut a piece out of the top of the cage and add another screen so that I can have a light shining through for a daytime display, I bead blasted the screens to give them a nice brushed look. Since it is going to be used to display if at all possible I would like to change the color of the cage; I know that painting PVC is a real PITA so I am trying to figure out another route to go, I have read on here that some people have used contact paper to coat the outside of the cage which seems to look pretty nice, but can that be used inside of the cage as well? Has anyone tried anything else to alter the color of their tanks or will this be more struggle than its worth? Any input would be awesome, thank you!

Personally I think it will be more work than it's worth. Plus if you use anything like paper inside the cage you are going to make the cage harder to clean, and it won't hold up well with high humidity.

Contact paper will work inside the cage, Greg Maxwell, the author of The Complete Chondro used it for years effectively. I dont know how well it would work on PVC though. His plans used to be free on his website but since he retirement I don't know if they are still available. He brush's on it the book though. Quality of the contact paper used was also a factor, cheaper stuff would bubble. That's about all I know about it though.

Ill look into the book and site...I was getting used to the "stone" look of the cage, however my wife didnt share the same out look haha. That being said I spent the afternoon sanding down the outside of the cage and cutting the seconday vent/light hole in the top. Tomorrow I will be taping and painting the exterior. I will post up the finished pictures after the paint has dried. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/14/a3u4e2e9.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/14/udy3erur.jpg
