Hello, New Ball Python owner

Hi guys.

So I finally bought myself a ball python. I Ended up with a 5 month Normal (Although, he was an offspring from a Pied). So far everything's been going good, I've had him for almost a week now. He's pooped within the first 48 hours (Because I Think they fed him before hand), and I've heard that's good when you bring home a snake. it means they aren't stressed out or anything. I Tried feeding him, but he didn't take it though. I Bought a pinkie from the store, frozen, and he turned his nose up to it. I Left it in the cage for a few hours while I went out and did errands, and he hadn't touched it. I know they can be a finicky species to feed, and I'm hoping that I'll have good luck with him later on with it.

So far he's only hissed at me once, and bit me. which surprisingly enough didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would. lol

I've enclosed an Imgur album (until I learn how to post pictures), of a few pictures of my baby boy and my set up. Feel free to leave any comments on what I need to improve.


I have a Large hide rock (seen in picture) for him, which seems to be a little bit too big, but I got it for free. He seems to burrow a lot under the substrate
I also have a matching water dish (not really important but meh)
and I recently picked up a Zilla Temp controller, which I'm absolutely confused on how to work this thing. I Ended up making a hole in the top of the screen and feeding it down, but heat source light never goes out. It's connected to a Zilla heating pad, which I did not put on, but was already part of the cage set up. so I'm not exactly sure HOW to remove it, if I need something warmer. I'm currently in a house that we run the AC and it gets down to 70 in the rooms.

My humidity is at about 50, and the temps read 78 degrees at all times.

anyways, Please help me. I'm a newbie lol and want my snake to live a happy life.

welcome .. u will learn a lot here .. one thing tho if he is 5 months old he should be way past pinkys contact the person who sold it to u and ask them what he was eating if u got it from a breeder chances are he is on rats most likely pups or weaned .. just a little advice for u .. other then keep reading and reading and u will soon get addicted ..
