    Rejecting batch of rats
Hello everyone, haven't been on for a while. Anyways:

I have 2 batches of rats. One from a breeder and one from a local pet store. It was feeding time for Twinkie and I thawed out a rat from a snake breeder under a heat lamp. The rat was barely warm to the touch. Twinkie struck and coiled and I'm pretty sure got it half way down before she spat it out? The rat was coated in saliva so I know she got at least half of it down. I offered a different rat from the same batch, still no go. Then I finally got out the other batch of rats from the local petstore and she immediately struck, coil and gobbled it down like a mongoose was going to catch her. She won't eat any of the rats from the first batch of rats (5 tries already). I was thinking the rats went bad or soemthing? They had a tendency to explode and such... Not to mention diarrhea exploding out every time twinkie coils them.

    ALSO

I fed Twinkie a mouse today (hopper) I know it's way too small, but I wanted to see if she'll take it since I was considering breeding my own mice. The problem was she was so hesitant to eat the mouse. Should I try a few more f/t feedings before trying to feed live? I don't want her to get hurt because she hesitated on eating a mouse.

You wanna switch from f/t to live.... sounds like a silly idea to me.

Just prekill your mice if you have to. ps. mice STINK... breed rats instead.

Weird about the 2 batches of rodents. Maybe they were dead too long before they were frozen?

Sounds like you have some bad rodents, I would just get rid of them.

Why don't you feed pre-killed/fresh-killed instead of live? That way you won't have to worry about anything.

Oh. I have no idea why I didn't think about just gassing the mice. I guess not sleeping does that... Yeah I guess I'll be throwing the 10 rats out. What a waste though! Oh well. Thanks for the advice. Time to get some much needed sleep
