What is the best breeding project to start out with?

I am eventually looking to do a small breeding project with ball pythons. It won't be now and it probably won't even be next year. I am looking to the far off future here. I am not looking to make money, it is just something I would love to do. I love seeing all the little babies and I can only imagine how awesome it must be to experience it first hand. All suggestions are welcome.

I would say have as many genes as you can at play in the pairing (and quality, of course). My bumblebee x lemonblast clutch was my most fun so far because the possibilities seemed almost endless! I would up with 7 eggs and 7 different morphs! Any pairing that can produce something "better" than the parents is really exciting to me.

I'm probably going to start off with Black Pastel x Lemon Blast.

Breed whatever you like the look of/can afford. Always go for quality though! My first pairing was Fire x Cinnamon because I love both of those genes. :gj:

If I had to pick only one project it would be Pieds and their combos.

They are my favorite morph to hatch.

They are eye catchers, the have the wow factor even with non snake people.

One other thing to consider is that they sell I think even if you do not plan on making money having something that sells is important to aside from working with wag you love.

Ask yourself which morph is really YOUR favorite and work with that. The hardest part is to stay focus on one project when you get hooked , I started wanted to make Pieds and Bees a few years back and obviously I got distracted and got into other stuffs too :rolleyes:

I agree with Deb one more point when it comes to pied's their variability is awesome, the amount of white and pattern is never the same it will always be exciting to hatch pieds.

IMHO the best breeding project would be selecting animals which carry the best example of those genes "in your opinion". Raise them and love them till you can pick them out among a bucket of other BPs and say "that's my snake"...

Then you start breeding... that will be the best breeding project ever!!! I know because I've done this.. and at 10 years old my first BP is about to lay her first clutch. Slugs or eggs I'm still super excited... the pairing is normal X normal but who cares she's awesome!!!...

My first breeding project will likely be my two 100% het albinos. We picked them up as a pair when they were just wee little babies. I'll be one excited snake momma during the whole process. Hoping to get some visual albinos from them. I'd die of excitement :banana:

The best morph to start with is the one you personally like the most. Within your reasonable budget of course.

Im starting with albino x spider het albino because my first snake was a really reduced albino and I want to see if I can replicate his pattern.

The year after next, I'll be doing fire x fire-spider-ghost and fire x pewter. That will give tons of possibilities.

Besides the "what you want" comments; no one can go wrong with cinnamons. ;)
