SHE ATE!!!!! Best Feeling EVER!!
I have had this girl, Sadie ('11 PHet Pied) since February 14 and had yet to see her eat. When I got her, I was living on the East Coast and didn't worry too much about her not eating since it was a particularly nasty winter and she maintained her weight. In May, I drove home to San Diego from Massachusetts with my snakes and hoped the move to warmer weather would help her eating. But, she soon started to lose weight. When I got her, she was 560g. Today, she weighed in at 365g. I decided that's it - after trying everything possible to get her to eat since Feb., I was left with the option to try assist feeding. I gave her a rat pink/fuzzy just to get her started and after she dropped it once (and the biggest heart-sinking feeling ever) I decided to give it one more go and she took it!!!! Cue the tears and shaking for me. I am absolutely on top of the world. Fingers crossed she doesn't regurge and that she eats on her own from now on as I slowly work her up to the proper size food. But for now....:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::dance::dance::dance::dan ce::dance::dance::D
(Disclaimer for beginners - please don't try this if you've never done an assist feed before and pleease don't do it unless your snake has lost a lot of weight, and you've tried everything else, including a vet visit, more outside advice, etc.! It's extremely stressful for the snake and is generally not advised for snakes older than hatchlings or rescues in really bad shape.)
