    Dumb question (Hides?)
Evening all! This may be a fairly stupid/pointless question, but what are your opinions on hides when it comes to laying females?

I have 2 girls about to blow (34 days since pre-lay shed...grrr) and theyre both coiled very snug inside their hides - the reptile basics style ones.

Now my only concern really is eggs sticking to the hides - from most people's photos I'm assuming a lot of you dont provide hides for larger females? However, I'm doing my best to make the feel as secure as possible, mainly so they'll lay me some goddam eggs soon :P

First clutch(es), so please excuse the random question! :imslow:

My girls laid directly on the plastic of their tubs and it wasn't hard to get the eggs off. The eggs stick much better to themselves than they do to plastic. Don't worry about it :)

As long as you find the eggs within a few hours you'll have no problems removing them. I wouldn't touch the hides, they clearly are using them.

I check them first thing in the morning then leave them to it. Tomorrow is day 35 so fingers crossed! (Surely cant be much longer...)

Thanks guys, put my mind at ease! :gj:

I would just leave the hides because that's what they are used to. I don't offer my big ladies hides, but they are in an enclosed rack anyway.

So are mine, but I have the hides so figure they may aswell have them. They're both 2kg+ and are struggling to fit though :D

I tried to get my 2600g girl into a RBI hide...she wore it as a hat. I decided that she was better off without one. I do have some kitty litter pans that I cut holes in that she will fit into. I used those in her QT tub but took away her hides once she made it into my rack.

My adults/sub-adults don't get hides so I don't have to worry about that. If you have plastic hides the eggs won't stick to them any worse than they stick to the tubs.

Once they're at the 'hide hat' stage they won't have hides anymore. Have a 2.5kg female that has far outgrown those hides already (also waiting on her eggs...)

Glad to know they're happy without them!
