    Hatch-Rite..best place to buy?
As the title says, where is the best place to buy Hatch-Rite? I will only have one clutch this year, and although I know I should already have the hatch-rite, I have yet to make the purchase. There is a place by my house that sells reptiles and the owner breeds bps..he sells all types of breeding supplies like inc's, thermostats, rheostats, probes, everything you could imagine EXCEPT substrate....so where is the best place to buy the stuff on the net? I decided to go this route because it seems to be the easiest to use and least likely to wreck my clutch.

Overpriced perlite with a special name.

You can get a huge bag of Perlite for the same price at a garden or hardware store. Just make sure there aren't any extra fertilizer or additives in it.

That's not what the OP was asking. But anyway, Hatchrite is not perlite, you can reuse it indefinitely, and it's fool proof.

Yes it is, it's glorified perlite, as nikki said. It's just foolproof premixed perlite lol

EDIT: ok maybe not foolproof... But its dumbed down.

Be careful, I've heard of plenty of ppl having issues with Hatch-Rite, their eggs getting too dry partway through incubation. A muuuuuuuuch safer, more foolproof method is to do the substrateless method with light diffuser over perlite and water. http://www.worldofballpythons.com/ar...bation-method/

Plus, as others have said, you're getting hardcore ripped off buying Hatch-Rite.

Premixed with what? I don't think perlite holds water indefinitely, so there's something else in Hatchrite that makes it retain water. Aside from being off topic, to say Hatchrite is just perlite is incorrect imo...

I've used it for the past 5 years and never had an issue. NERD uses it and he seems to do pretty well.

No matter how fool proof you make something, there are people out there who will foul it up. And as for it being too expensive? With each clutch potentially worth thousands of dollars, I'll splurge and spend a few bucks on some Hatchrite.

    Ok, not "just perlite"...
Imo, it's like comparing Tylenol to a generic brand of acetaminophen
