Setup help

I am just checking my setup with you guys to make sure everything is correct. It is a sterilite tub (not sure the size) with a wood half log, a plastic crock for water and cypress mulch as a substrate. it is heated with a UTH on one side with a thermostat set on 84. the cool side reads 77 at night and 79 during the day. Its in a room of the house with little foot traffic. Thanks so much for reading this!! There is noone near me who owns bloods.

There isn't much of a heat gradient, I prefer to keep the hot side at 90 and the cool side at 80, this has worked for me for balls, boas, and bloods. Looks like you have enough substrate for him to burrow, they love that. The bowl looks big enough for him to soak, they love that too. I'd ad a humidity hide too in case he'd like to use that. Do you have a thermostat to regulate the temps? What is the humidity like?

Humidity is normally around sixtyfive percent. and there is a thermostat controlling the UTH. The only reason i set it for 84 is that is what the caresheet told me. I have my ball python with a warm side of 90 and a cool side of 75-80. LOL as soon as I set loki down, he started burrowing,,,couldnt even get a decent photo. :)

I need to add that i added more ventilation holes because the whole thing was covered in condensation constantly! i left it that way long enough for him to finish shedding then i had to relook at the situation.

84 is good. I give my four a hotspot of 85. Some use it some don't. I found much higher was almost never used so I started to lower to find what they liked.

Be careful that the substrate does not trap to much heat. I found with a uth, tub, and a tstat set at 88 the inside floor temp under a few inches of substrate got over 100.

Being that they will borrow it may be best to make the substrate over the uth thin and use a hide. Or lose the hide and uth if you would rather let it burrow. If you go for option B you could add the uth to the side of the tub.

Also make sure the water bowl is sitting on the tub bottom and not on the top of the substrate. They are very strong and will burrow under and flip the water with ease.

Looks good. I second keeping your hot side on the cooler end. I keep mine around 83-84 with no problems.

Looks good! 84 is just fine....good number.

Concur with aforementioned temps. A hot side of 90 would be very difficult to manage in such a small enclosure - not enough room for a true thermal gradient.

It would be easier to maintain humidity with less holes in the container, Cypress is good but not as burrow easy as sphagnum moss..
