Is there a way to blacken out tubs?
And what I mean by this is can you make a clear tub, like a sterilite, darker/black out light to give the snake more security? I use RBI hides for my snakes now, they each have 2, but since I'm going to be drastically increasing the size of my collection soon that would be a lot of hides. I was thinking using dark tape to put on the outside sides? Any other ideas?

    Spray paint made for plastic?

Sterilite makes different size dish tubs. You can pick them up really cheap.
My bigger females seem happy in them.

Didn't know if spray paint was okay or not. Wasn't sure if the aroma would have an effect on the snakes.

I would feel that's its safe after it has cured.

    Are your racks not enclosed?

Something like tape would be a pain during cleaning time.

I'll 2nd the spray paint idea. I think black primer works as well if you aren't picky.

    Other options:

    -Black construction paper
    -Sticky shelf paper
    -Tape(as you said)
-If there is a restaurant/catering store near you, they probably have bus tubs which are already black. Not sure on price though.

The rack I have now is enclosed but my next one I want to build like this one: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...shelving-unit)

That's why I was wondering how I could black them out.

I've done that before and it was fine. I spray painted three of the four sides of the tub (on the outside) and it worked out well.

Use solid colored tubs or freedom breeder tubs if you're against spray paint. They aren't see through and provide great security.

I think the easiest thing would be to enclose the rack. Just get some 1/4" paneling and cut it to size. You could even just Velcro it on or easy removal when cleaning.

    Just a thought.

    Great idea IMO.

This made me think of another idea if velcro doesn't work(which I assume it would). Make rails/sliders on each side of the rack so you can slide a panel/wall in and out
